Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster parent. There is nothing more rewarding than helping an animal in need! PANT relies on their foster homes to provide love and care for animals in transition. Without our foster homes, we would not be able to find new, forever homes for the animals we serve.
P.A.N.T.’s animals come from a variety of sources, including animal control agencies, veterinarians, breeders, cat colonies, private homes and other rescue organizations. Only animals who pass a temperament evaluation are accepted into our adoption program. Once accepted into the program, many of our animals are in need of foster placement prior to being adopted into their new, forever homes.
As a foster parent, you will be providing a caring, nuturing environment for a pet awaiting permanent placement. P.A.N.T. will work in collaboration with you to find an animal that is appropriate for your home environment and pet experience level, so you will be comfortable and confident in providing the necessary care for your foster pet. If at any time, you feel overwhlemed with the needs of your foster pet, P.A.N.T. will provide you with the necessary support in resolving the situation. Fostering is an extemely rewarding experience for both you and the pet you serve. Therefore, it is P.A.N.T.’s goal to assist you in succeeding at this wonderful opportunity. We sincerely appreciate your time, efforts and support in improving the quality of life for animals in Dutchess County.
Every home is unique, therefore, a great deal of time and effort in placed into finding a suitable match between a foster home and animal. PANT's foster homes are invaluable, so it is critical that we ensure comfort, happiness and ease in placing an animal in a foster home. We try to maintain this by asking potential foster homes to fill out an application, which will provide us with more detailed information as to the comfort level of the foster homes with types of pets and breeds. After the application is approved, PANT will set up a home visit. The home visit consists of a PANT representative coming to the potential foster home to meet with the person/family to speak to them in more detail. Once the home is approved they will be contacted as soon as an animal meeting their expectations is in need of a home.
Once an animal is placed in foster home, PANT will provide food, litter and any necessary medications. PANT will pay for any medical care that the pet needs. The only responsiblities of the foster home are to provide a lot of TLC, and possibly transport animals to outreaches/veterinary visits.
We hope that you will be interested in becoming a foster parent. It is a wonderful opportunity to assist an animal in need!
